A group joining safari is the most social, affordable, and spontaneous way to experience Kenya — you arrive as a solo traveller, a pair, or a small group, and within hours you are part of a team of like-minded adventurers sharing game drives, meals, binoculars, and the collective thrill of seeing Africa's wildlife unfold together. This 7-day itinerary takes your group through four of Kenya's most spectacular and varied parks — from the legendary open plains of the Masai Mara and the hippo-filled waters of Lake Naivasha, to the flamingo-pink shores of Lake Nakuru and the vast elephant paradise of Amboseli with its iconic Kilimanjaro backdrop. Every day brings something new, every sighting is shared, and every evening is spent swapping stories over dinner. You leave not just with wildlife memories, but with friendships that often last a lifetime.

This itinerary is designed to deliver maximum variety and wildlife density within seven days, while keeping the pace relaxed enough for a group to travel comfortably and socially together. It begins in the Masai Mara — where the wildlife excitement is immediate and the group dynamic forms naturally — and moves through progressively different landscapes before finishing in the spectacular open spaces of Amboseli. Every day is shared, every sighting celebrated together, and every evening spent connecting over the day's adventures.
Your group joining safari begins early in the morning with a pick-up in Nairobi, where you meet your guide and your fellow travellers before setting off together toward the Masai Mara. The drive through the Great Rift Valley is part of the adventure, with scenic viewpoints and relaxed stops that help everyone get acquainted. You arrive in the Mara around midday, check in to your camp, and enjoy lunch before heading out on your first afternoon game drive. The wide plains quickly deliver excitement as zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, and often elephants appear, and the shared thrill of spotting wildlife together sets the tone for the week. As the sun dips low and the sky turns warm with colour, you return to camp for dinner and your first night in the bush.
Group Moment: First wildlife sightings shared together — the Rift Valley viewpoint stop and the first zebra herds on the Mara plains
Overnight: Camp or lodge in Masai Mara National Reserve
You set out early in the cool morning light, when animals are most active and the plains feel alive with possibility. With a picnic lunch packed, you spend the day exploring different areas of the reserve, following lions, cheetahs, and large herds of plains game while your guide explains animal behaviour and the rhythms of the savannah. The group experience adds to the fun, with everyone scanning the horizon, sharing cameras and binoculars, and celebrating each new sighting together. You return to camp in the evening, pleasantly tired, swapping stories over dinner and reliving the day's highlights.
Group Moment: Everyone on the roof scanning the horizon — the collective thrill when a lion or cheetah is spotted
Wildlife Focus: Lions, cheetahs, elephants, hippos, wildebeest and zebra herds, Big Five opportunities
Overnight: Camp or lodge in Masai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast, you leave the Mara and travel back toward the Great Rift Valley, watching the landscape change from endless plains to greener, lakeside scenery. You arrive at Lake Naivasha around midday and, after lunch, enjoy a relaxed afternoon that may include a boat ride on the lake or a guided walk on Crescent Island, where giraffes and zebras roam freely. The slower pace and calm setting offer a refreshing contrast to the open savannah, and the group enjoys a more social, easy-going afternoon together. You settle into your lodge in the evening, sharing photos and stories from the journey so far.
Group Moment: Hippos rising from the water at close range on the boat — everyone reaching for their cameras at once
Wildlife Focus: Hippos, birdlife, giraffes and zebras on Crescent Island, fish eagles
Overnight: Lodge at Lake Naivasha
You depart after breakfast for the short drive to Lake Nakuru National Park, arriving in time for a game drive through one of Kenya's most scenic and wildlife-rich parks. The compact size of Nakuru makes it ideal for group travel, with excellent chances of seeing both black and white rhinos, as well as giraffes and large numbers of birds along the lakeshore. You spend the day exploring together, stopping often to watch flamingos, search for rhinos, and enjoy the changing scenery from woodland to open grassland. In the late afternoon, you head to your lodge or camp for dinner and a relaxed group evening.
Group Moment: The first rhino sighting — one of the rarest and most exciting Big Five moments in Kenya
Wildlife Focus: Black and white rhinos, flamingo flocks, Rothschild's giraffe, leopards, lions
Overnight: Lodge or camp at Lake Nakuru
After an early breakfast, you begin the longer drive south toward Amboseli National Park, enjoying the sense of travel and changing landscapes as you move across the country. You arrive later in the afternoon and, if time allows, head out for a short game drive, where elephants, zebras, and other plains game often appear against the dramatic backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. Even a brief introduction to Amboseli leaves a strong impression, especially when the mountain reveals itself in the soft evening light. You return to camp for dinner and your night near the park.
Group Moment: First glimpse of Kilimanjaro through the vehicle roof hatch — a collective gasp as the mountain appears
Wildlife Focus: First elephant herds, zebras, wildebeest, Kilimanjaro backdrop at golden hour
Overnight: Camp or lodge near Amboseli National Park
You head out early for a morning game drive in Amboseli, taking advantage of the cool air and beautiful light to enjoy the park at its best. Elephant herds dominate the scene, often moving gracefully across the plains or gathering in the swamps, while buffalo, giraffes, and a wide variety of birds add to the experience. The open landscapes make viewing easy and enjoyable for everyone in the group, and the relaxed pace allows plenty of time to watch, photograph, and simply enjoy the moment. After lunch and some rest at the lodge, you may enjoy a shorter afternoon drive or relax at camp, before spending your final evening together celebrating the journey.
Group Moment: The group farewell dinner — sharing favourite wildlife moments from the week and exchanging contacts
Wildlife Focus: Large elephant herds, buffalo, giraffes, cheetahs, Kilimanjaro reflection in the swamp
Overnight: Camp or lodge near Amboseli (final night)
After breakfast, you begin the drive back to Nairobi, leaving the savannah behind and reflecting on a week of shared adventure, wildlife encounters, and new friendships. You arrive in the afternoon, marking the end of your 7-day group joining safari, having experienced some of Kenya's most iconic parks together and at great value.
End of safari. Nairobi drop-off at your hotel or a central city point — airport transfers available on request.
This 7-day group joining safari follows a classic Kenyan circuit from Nairobi west to the Masai Mara National Reserve (Days 1–2), back east to the Lake Naivasha shoreline in the Great Rift Valley (Day 3), north to the compact and spectacular Lake Nakuru National Park (Day 4), then south through changing landscapes to Amboseli National Park (Days 5–6), before the final return drive to Nairobi on Day 7. The four-park circuit covers Kenya's most iconic wildlife destinations in one shared, social, and memorable week.

14 July, 2025 08:30AMI was nervous about joining a group safari alone but this was honestly one of the best decisions of my life. Within an hour of the drive to the Mara, I felt completely at home with the other travellers. Our guide was incredible — patient, knowledgeable, and funny. By the end of the week our group had seen lions hunting, a leopard in a tree, and elephants at sunset beneath Kilimanjaro. Seven strangers became real friends. I cannot recommend this enough to solo travellers.

22 October, 2025 17:00PMWe joined this group safari as two friends on a post-university trip and it absolutely delivered. The four-park itinerary gives you incredible variety — the Mara was electrifying, Naivasha was peaceful and different, Nakuru had these astonishing flamingo flocks, and Amboseli finished things off beautifully with Kilimanjaro emerging through the morning cloud behind the elephants. Brilliant value for the quality of the experience. Abner Safaris knows what they're doing.

3 March, 2026 12:00PMAs a Kenyan, I had always wanted to do a proper multi-park safari but felt it would be expensive going alone. This group joining option made it completely accessible and the experience was spectacular. The shared energy when we first spotted a cheetah on Day 2 was something I will never forget — everyone simultaneously grabbing cameras and whispering excitedly. That's the magic of group safaris. Our guide was a 10 out of 10. Already planning to come back!
